Abstract
In the recent years petrol, diesel, and the other types of fuel are becoming more expensive and in demand. Petroleum, diesel are non renewable source of energy so there is no way for us to replace it. So the next alternative for the fuel is biofuel. Because biofuel is in current trend and has more advantages than the existing one. This may be a future ruler. Global warming, green house gas, climatic change, pollution for all, biofuel produced from lignocellulosic biomass may a solution for the problem. In today's word there is a need of biofuel. Because of the global warming and the climatic changes. Biofuel is a renewable fuel and it can also be produced using various feedstocks. It can be produced using the edible crops, non edible crops waste by products and also from algae. Lignocellulosic biomass it is a raw material to produce biofuel. Lignocellulosic Biomass composed of cellulose, lignin and hemicelluloses. These three parts of lignocellulosic biomass has been used in many ways. Lignin is used as binder in cement, as a soil conditioner, as a filter, as a sequencing agent. Hemicellulose is used in food, toothpaste, cosmetics, explosive manufacturing, and papermaking. Cellulose is used cellulosic ethanol production etc, The sources of lignocellulosic biomass includes Agricultural residues, Agro waste, forest biomass, forest wastes etc. Pretreatments are necessary to obtain the desired products which are carried out by physical, chemical and enzymatic methods. Milling, sonication, mechanical extrusion, ozonolysis are physical pretreatment. Chemical pretreatment which uses the chemical to pretreat. Enzymatic pretreatment which uses enzymes. The lignocellulosic biomass is used for various purposes. This chapter discusses about the components, pretreatment strategies, challenges in utilization and also the various uses of lignocellulosic biomass namely biofuels, bioplastics, furnitures, adhesives, road constructions, car interiors, medical applications in drug delivery.
