Abstract
Plastics are used extensively pandemic, and its accumulation in the environment has become a global concern. plastic deterioration and recycling has become all encompassing as it disturb the living being, Because the ability to enzymatically degrade plastic has been thought to be limited to a few bacterial species, biodegradation is not yet a viable remediation or recycling strategy. The research findings and investigations on microbial degradation on plastics by measuring the changes in various morphological and physio-chemical characteristics using techniques like as scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), CO2 evolution test (Strum), however these evidences are not enough to prove the exact biodegradation on plastics. In this chapter the different stages of biodegradation, and state different techniques used by several authors working in degradation of plastic is province. To sum-up the microbial degradation, recent developments in microbial enzymes and their role in microbial degradation. Recent data showed that biodegradation of plastics with selected microbial strains has efficient degradability rate .Among any other source microbial enzymes are one of the most ecofriendly and powerful weapon for plastic degradation .This chapter clearly reviews the current research on biodegradation of plastics and the techniques for the analysis of degradation rate.
