Abstract
Urbanization is a part of industrialization and leads to an increase in population and settlements in cities. Rapid urbanization induces ecological, social, and economic changes in all sectors. Environmental degradation has been occurring due to uncontrolled urbanization. The health and well-being of the urbanites are directly related to the environment in which they live. The sustainability of cities and towns is becoming an environmental issue of increasing concern. Urban forestry is considered a rapidly expanding branch of forestry science. Urban forests are green infrastructures comprising trees that are more known for their intangible benefits than tangible benefits in the urban environment. Urban trees provide numerous ecosystem services such as carbon storage and sequestration. They may produce timber, firewood, or food, but many urban trees aim to improve the urban environment and provide amenities and other benefits to urban dwellers. There is a need for systematic management of urban forests.
