Abstract
This chapter investigates the role of microfinance in promoting women’s empowerment in India through secondary data sources. It examines government reports, NABARD statistics, RBI publications, and previous research to evaluate economic, social, and entrepreneurial impacts of microfinance programs. The findings suggest that microfinance has improved women’s income levels, decision-making power, and entrepreneurial participation. However, challenges such as high interest rates, over-indebtedness, and financial illiteracy persist. The chapter concludes with policy recommendations aimed at strengthening microfinance as an instrument for sustainable women empowerment. The chapter is based on secondary data from government reports, RBI and NABARD publications, and research articles. It examines the role of microfinance in empowering women through economic, social, and entrepreneurial outcomes. The analysis also identifies key challenges and provides policy recommendations.
