Abstract
Ethnobotany today is considered a rapidly expanding science in its scope and concept. Many research papers on rich ethnobotanical resources of North East India, especially Manipur, have been published by various workers. The region of North East India is characterized by diverse physiography and forms a unique biogeographic zone supporting almost half of India's biodiversity. It is also a meeting point of a mosaic of cultures and races with rich traditional knowledge. This wealth of indigenous knowledge needs to be tapped for use in the pharmaceutical industry as well as to boost the socio-economic status of the tribal communities while taking care of the conservation of rare and endemic plant species. The present paper reviews and highlights various research studies on using plants in terms of ethnobotany and practices in North East India. This may be a source of information to the budding researchers and students in their effort towards finding research gaps in the region, therefore opening new avenues for further scope in the region.
